Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does KeiCraze Customs do?
We specialize in importing, customizing, and selling Honda Kei trucks and vans directly from Japan, transforming them into street-legal, off-road-ready micro vehicles that are as practical as they are eye-catching. Whether for personal passion, business use, or mobile services, we craft functional vehicles with unforgettable personality.
2. Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?
Our operations are based in Windsor, Colorado, serving Northern Colorado and anywhere in the US. From that hub, we design and build your custom Kei truck or van..
3. Are Kei trucks street-legal in Colorado?
Yes — as of May 2025, Colorado passed legislation (HB25-1281) legalizing Kei vehicles state-wide, though full vehicle registration and titling wont become available till Jan 1 2028. Until then, we import these vehicles under the classic 25-year rule, allowing them to be titled upon meeting age and compliance criteria, and can pass a title on to you where you can register in your state

4. How can I customize a Kei truck or van for my needs?
We offer fully tailored builds—including storage modifications, customized paint, business branding, or evolved practical layouts—turning your Kei into a mobile coffee cart, boutique trailer, adventure vehicle, or whatever you imagine.
5. What does the import process look like?
We manage all aspects—from sourcing quality Kei vehicles in Japan, handling shipping and compliance under US import laws, to prepping them for sale: The Full Kei Import Journey with KeiCraze Customs
Step 1: Sourcing Your Kei Vehicle in Japan
We begin by hand-picking quality, legally importable Kei trucks and vans—all 25 years or older to comply with U.S. EPA and DOT exemptions.
We inspect for mileage, frame integrity, engine condition, and interior cleanliness.
Vehicles must pass Japanese de-registration and customs compliance before export.
Step 2: Exporting & International Shipping
Once secured, the Kei vehicle is shipped from Japan to the U.S. via ocean freight. We typically use RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) or containerized shipping depending on volume and timing.
You are provided a Bill of Lading (BOL) and export documents.
Estimated transit time: 4–8 weeks, depending on port congestion and weather.
Port of arrival: Commonly Long Beach, CA .
Step 3: Working with a Customs Broker
To clear the vehicle through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), we work closely with a licensed customs broker who handles:
Entry paperwork with CBP
EPA Form 3520-1 and DOT HS-7 declaration (under 25-year exemption)
ISF Filing and vessel manifest reviews
Ensuring our vehicle qualifies for informal/ formal entry
For higher-value vehicles, we handle formal entry and bond posting if needed.
If documents are delayed or originals are in transit, brokers can often clear entry with scanned or digital copies—with follow-up upon delivery of originals.
Step 4: Tariffs and Import Fees
Although Kei trucks are small, they are still subject to U.S. import duties and handling fees:
2.5% Duty on trucks and cargo vans
Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) and Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF)
Customs exam fees if flagged for inspection
Broker fee (prices vary per vehicle)
We prepare customers in advance so there are no surprises upon arrival.
Step 5: Transporting to Windsor, CO
Once cleared by CBP, vehicles are either:
Picked up directly at port by KeiCraze Custome or
Shipped via enclosed or open transport to our Windsor, Colorado headquarters
We coordinate reliable carriers with experience in small, imported vehicles.
Step 6: Custom Builds & Final Prep
At our Windsor shop, your Kei truck or van goes through:
Mechanical review and safety checks
Customizations (lift kits, wraps, utility builds, logos, etc.)
CO compliance prep: lights, mirrors, speedometer checks, etc.
As Colorado legalizes Kei vehicles for road use (HB25-1281), we help customers understand what documentation will be required in 2028 for full titling. Or how the customer can register themselves.

Once complete, your vehicle is:
